I never though it would happen. My mom called me and told me she was going to have a kidney transplant. I was so happy for her but at the same time I was scared. She told me how the process worked. To me it seemed long and difficult. I was going to be without a mom for almost three months. During the time she was gone I did my best to take care, help, and love my family.

My mom was always there to do the laundry and to make us meals. Now she was going to be gone for almost three months. My sister and I decided we would have to take turns doing both of those things. It was something we had to do. I believe I did my best to take care of my family through the obstacle my family had to face.

Since my mom was in Rochester and we were at home, there was no one to help us out with remembering things and being responsible for things. I  chose to watch out for and help my sister with her things. In return she did her best to help me. It was a challenge but I dont think I could of done it any better. It felt good to know that I was helping my sister out with things.

The hardest part about the whole situation was that my mom was not there to physcially love my family and I. So my family decided the only way to fill us with her love was to love each other even more. Just by saying loving each other, the process was alot easier to handle. My family and I got through it and I believe we were at our best to accomplish that.

It was a long journey for my family and I but we all survived it. It took us through obstacles and challenges but its only made us stronger. I believe we got through it, because we all did our best to find ways to work things out.

  1. Alexis,

That sounds like a really tough situation, but its great that you pulled through it and grew from it! Its awesome to know that your family loves you even when you aren't close to them and it seems like your family really rallied together with that. I hope that you can utilize that situation and what you learned to help you be successful while you're here at ISU!

  2. Alexis, It's always good to have people around you that love you in those hard times! It is good to know they are always there for you back home and now is the best time to make those really good friends that years down the line will still love you for when you move on into the real world.
